HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Marshall football team moved up three spots to 18th in both the Amway USA Today Coaches Poll (427 points) and the Associated Press Top 25 (383 points) Sunday afternoon.

Marshall (10-0, 6-0 Conference USA) comes off a dominating 41-14 performance in a home win over Rice (6-4, 4-2) on Saturday. The Owls had been on a six-game winning streak.

The win was the Herd’s 11th straight overall (second only to Florida State’s 26) and 13th in a row at home (second only to Baylor and Alabama with 14).

By virtue of its win Saturday and a 42-24 Homecoming victory over Middle Tennessee (5-5, 4-2) on Oct. 11, Marshall has also clinched the Conference USA East Division title and a spot in the C-USA Championship Game for a second consecutive season against a representative from the league’s West Division.

Louisiana Tech (7-3, 6-0) has clinched at least a tie for the West crown and currently holds a two-game lead over Rice and UTEP. Rice and UTEP play Friday (Nov. 21), while Tech meets Rice on Nov. 29. Tech defeated UTEP, 55-3, back on Oct. 4.

The C-USA Championship Game is scheduled Dec. 6. The site is determined by highest winning percentage in league games, or a tiebreaker involving head-to-head competition or computer ranking composite comparison.
