Marshall No. 24 in College Football Playoff Rankings

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Unbeaten Marshall made its first appearance in the College Football Playoff Selection Committee Top 25 rankings on Tuesday night. The Herd is at No. 24 in the Week 5 rankings revealed on ESPN.


Marshall is the second Group of Five conference team in the CFP rankings, behind Boise State (9-2, 6-1 Mountain West) who is ranked No. 24. The Broncos' two losses are by 22 to Ole Miss (35-13) in the Georgia Dome on Aug. 28 and by 14 at Air Force (28-14) on Sept. 27.

The highest-ranked Group of Five team by the CFP Selection Committee at season's end will receive a berth in one of the three CFP access bowls (Peach, Cotton, Fiesta).

Marshall (11-0, 7-0 Conference USA) is ranked No. 19 this week in the Associated Press (media) poll and no. 20 in the USA Today/Amway coaches poll, and is the highest-ranked Group of five conference team in both polls. Boise is No. 25 in both polls.

Marshall is also No. 19 in the College Football Computer Composite (CFCC) Rankings, while Boise State is rated No. 30.

The Herd has 12 straight wins (second only to Florida State's 27) and 13 home wins in a row (second only to Baylor and Alabama with 14). Marshall also has clinched a second straight Conference USA East Division title.

Coach Doc Holliday's Herd has won 17 of its last 18 games. The 2014 Herd leads the FBS in average scoring margin (+28.4 points).

The Herd finishes the regular season on Friday, Nov. 28 at noon with a home game at Joan C. Edwards Stadium against visiting Western Kentucky. Marshall will meet Louisiana tech or Rice on Dec. 6 in the Conference USA Championship Game.
