Buckeye Elite National Basketball Showcase To Take Place in Huntington This Weekend

Huntington – The Cabell-Huntington Convention and Visitors Bureau has been working for several months to assist Buckeye Elite Events Management in bringing the first Buckeye Elite National Basketball Showcase to the Huntington area. The event will take place Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6 with all games being played at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena.

“This all came together pretty quickly,” said Anna Adkins, CVB Sales Manager. “Laura Kilgore, sales manager at Hampton Inn University, gave the CVB a heads up that this tournament was interested in Huntington and invited me to her meeting with the agency. We’ve been able to get them in touch with local businesses and restaurants for sponsorships and donations. We’ve also helped them secure hotel rooms within Huntington. We’re extremely excited to have this tournament here. It will be entertaining for spectators and a chance for athletes to be seen by recruiters. Miles Ferguson and his team have done a fantastic job planning this tournament!”

Buckeye Elite Events Management is a new event management company that has been formed with a focus on local youth and community.  “Our goal is to bring to our local Tri-State area sporting events along with other events that will bring national level competition to our area and allow our youth to have the opportunity to participate in these Showcases/Classics that only take place primarily in big cities throughout our country,” said Miles Ferguson, a co-founder of the company.  “We also look to bring the very best our country has on a high school level of talent to our area for the fan base around here to be able to see the best in our own Tri-State. We will also get into other areas outside of sporting events that will bring good entertainment to this area as well in the future.”

Buckeye Elite National Showcase is a national level showcase of some of the very best high school level basketball teams and players from all over the country that will play in this two day event competing against each other for regular season matchups. This Showcase includes teams such as:

- #1 Montverde Academy, Fl.,

-#5 Plano West, Tx.,

-#29 Gonzaga, D.C.,

-#35 Louisville Ballard, Ky.,

-Prolific Prep, Ca.

-and 10 other major high school programs.

Players who will be participating include: Ben Simmons (#1 2015), D.J. Hogg (#31 2015), Tyler Davis (#33 2015), Noah Dickerson (#54 2015), Doral Moore (#59 2015), Tyler Lydon (#67 2015), Bryant Crawford (#80 2015), Josh Jackson (#1 2016), Seventh Woods (#26 2016), Josh Hall (#63 2016), Howard Washington (#79 2016), Chris Giles (#33 2017) along with 40+ more of the top 250 players nationally from throughout our country.

“These teams and players are literally the best our country has and they will all be in the same location, competing against each other on the very highest level that high school sports has to offer,” Ferguson said. “We will see several future NBA players with a couple very likely being a future #1 draft pick. We have close to 60 Division 1 prospects, many of which already have committed to the top college programs in the U.S. We have one of the top matchups Nationally for this season between #1 Montverde Academy vs #5 Plano West. Every single matchup that we have will pit the Nations best competing against each other and will be sure to impress with the high flying dunks to the individual battles of these top ranked players.”

Along with the best basketball, event organizers plan to have great fan interactive competitions for prizes and halftime shows. They will also have a brand new 2015 Harley Davidson that will be given away to the lucky ticket holder and are working with a car dealership on a possible half court shot to win a brand new car. “All in all, this is a lot more than just a basketball tournament with all the extras thrown into it, no matter what kind of fan you are we will have a lot that will keep you attention and that you don’t want to miss.” Ferguson said.

Showcase dates are Dec. 5-6, 2014. Games start on Friday at 2:00 p.m. and on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. A complete schedule of matchups and game times can be found on the Big Sandy Superstore Arena website at www.bigsandyarena.com .

“Come out and support this event and help bring many more to this area by doing this,” Ferguson concluded. “I would encourage everyone to get to these games early because we do look for very big crowds. With one of the top matchups in the Country being played at 9:00 p.m. Saturday night between Montverde Academy vs Plano West and the many other National matchups throughout the 13 game schedule, it would be very easy to not get a ticket if not purchased early before the games start.”
