MU Plays Northern Illinois in Boca Raton Bowl

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall football team will travel to Boca Raton, Fla. to face the Northern Illinois Huskies in the inaugural Boca Raton Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 23, the Conference USA office announced Sunday afternoon. The game, which will be televised on ESPN, will be at 6 p.m. and is held at FAU Stadium.

Boca Raton Bowl tickets can be purchased online through HerdZone.com starting at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7. Tickets are $40 apiece and will be located on the east side of FAU stadium. Marshall Fans can use their online account to purchase tickets. Tickets ordered prior to noon on Wednesday will be sat in Big Green Scholarship Foundation priority point order. All tickets purchased starting on Thursday will be sat on a first come first served basis. When ordering Bowl Game tickets through the Marshall Athletic Department Big Green Members will earn a priority point.

The Thundering Herd (12-1 overall) defeated Louisiana Tech 26-23 Saturday afternoon in Joan C. Edwards Stadium to become the first team in FBS history to win championship games in multiple conferences. Marshall won five MAC Championship titles in 1997, '98, '99, 2000 and 2002.

Northern Illinois (11-2) received 29 points in the USA Today Coaches Poll and 11 in the Associated Press Top 25. The Huskies are winners of seven straight games, culminating with the 51-17 victory over Bowling Green in the Mid-American Conference Championship game.

"We indicated to Conference USA, who makes the ultimate decision, that we would like to play the best possible opponent and that is what we received in Northern Illinois," said Marshall Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick. "NIU has been one of the elite Group of Five schools this season and I know that our student-athletes, fans and staff are very excited for this matchup, which will be held in a first-class venue at a very desirable location for our fans and student-athletes."
