BOCA RATON, Fla.– Florida Atlantic used a strong second half to pull away from visiting Marshall 76-62 Saturday evening in FAU Arena.

The Herd dropped to 4-14 and 0-5 in Conference USA with the loss, while FAU improved to 8-8 and 1-5 in the league.

Official final stats are not yet available due to FAU’s technical difficulties with the game’s scoring computer. However, Ryan Taylor finished with 24 points, one off his career-high. Aleksa Nikolic added 15 and Jay Johnson chipped in 10. Justin Edmonds tallied seven, Cheikh Sane added four and Austin Loop posted two.

Marshall got a strong first-half effort, especially from Taylor (10 points on 4-6 shooting) and eight apiece from Nikolic and Johnson (4-5 shooting). The Herd held a commanding 22-12 first-half rebounding edge, which resulted in an 11-0 bulge in second chance points.

FAU’s Marquan Botley finished with 23 points, including 17 in the second half. Solomon Poole had 18. C.J. Turman notched 13 points and Kelvin Penn had 12.

Poole had the hot hand in the first half for the Owls, netting 11 points on three 3-pointers.

Both teams combined to attempt just five (MU 2, FAU 3) free throws in the game’s first 20 minutes.

The Herd will be back in action Thursday with a home game against UTSA at 7 p.m. ET and against UTEP Saturday in a 3 p.m. contest that will be carried on the American Sports Network.
