Herd to Complete Regular-Season Play at Charlotte

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall men’s basketball (11-18, 7-9) will wrap up regular-season play at Charlotte (13-17, 6-11) on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Halton Arena in Charlotte, N.C.

Austin Loop (South Webster, Ohio) led a trio of double-figure scorers with 13 points for Marshall in a 67-50 loss at Old Dominion (23-6, 12-5) on Thursday in front of a crowd of 7,114 at Ted Constant Convocation Center. The Monarchs' triumph extended their win streak to five games, and made it 20 in a row at home. ODU's home win streak is the 10th best in the nation. The Herd's loss was its fourth in the last 11 games. Marshall's 50 points were its fewest since a 52-48 loss to UAB in Huntington on Feb. 23, 2013.

Sophomore Austin Loop (South Webster, Ohio) was named to the 2015 Conference USA Men’s Basketball All-Academic Team, as it was announced by the league on Friday. The award recognizes athletes for their achievements in the classroom and on the court, as the recipients must hold a minimum 3.2 GPA and are a starter or key reserve for their team. The honor is the first of Loop's career. He holds a 3.6 GPA as a double major in clinical exercise physiology and biomechanics.

The Herd completed the 12-team field for the 2015 C-USA Basketball Championships with its win over FIU (Feb. 26). Tickets are available for purchase online at C-USA member school athletic box offices or by calling UAB directly at 205-975-8221. Eleven men’s games are included in the men’s all-session ticket package, with prices starting as low as $100 for all four days. Excellent lower bowl seating is still available at $180, while a premium seating package is offered at $250. Ticket holders for the men’s games will have access for the women’s championship games at no extra charge.

Charlotte (13-17, 6-11) ranks first in Conference USA and 42nd in the nation in scoring offense at 73.5 points per game. The 49ers list 19 games this season where they have scored at least 70 points, including their last time out – an 88-84 overtime loss to Western Kentucky on Thursday. Torin Dorn and Braxton Ogbueze top the team with 12.0 and 10.1 points per game, respectively.

Marshall holds a 5-4 advantage all-time against the 49ers, and is 3-1 when playing in Charlotte. The 49ers have won the last two games in the series against the Herd, including the Jan. 10 meeting in Huntington (77-72).
