MULLENS, West Virginia – Who wants to learn to play the guitar, or learn to play it better?

“Pickin’ in the Park” at Twin Falls State Park March 20-22, 2015, features guitar instruction and tips by Robin Kessinger, Robert Shafer and Jim Ritchey. The weekend is for anyone interested in learning how to start playing guitar or to how improve the skills they already have.

The focus is on instruction and includes guitar electronics and sound, chords, flatpicking and licks. Combined sessions with all attendees and instructors include jam etiquette, stories, questions and answers and discussion. Individual instruction is also a key element during the weekend.

Robin Kessinger is one of the country’s leading flatpick guitarists. Kessinger has been featured on Public Broadcasting Service and BBC television, is a National Flatpicking Champion and has won multiple-state flatpicking contests several times.             Robert Shafer has played guitar professionally since 1981 and also a multiple-time winner of National flatpicking contests as well as multiple-state contests. He has appeared on the Grand Ole Opry. His talent on the electric guitar received rave reviews from Guitar Play Magazine, The Washington Post, Vintage Guitar Magazine and others.

Jim Ritchey is a recording engineer, published songwriter and touring musician. His songs have been recorded and performed by numerous artists including Kenny Rogers, Jim Messina and B.W. Stevenson.

“There are few places a person will find three more qualified musicians and teachers than at Guitar Weekend at Twin Falls,” said Scott Durham, park superintendent. “If you’re just learning guitar or have been playing for years, this weekend is a must.”
