DALLAS, Texas – Marshall University’s women’s soccer team lost a 2-1 heartbreaker Friday night against the SMU Mustangs in Dallas, Texas at Westcott Field. The Herd got down early, but posted the game-tying goal a minute into the second period. Yet it wasn’t enough as the Mustangs delivered the game-winning goal with under ten minutes to play in regulation. With the loss Marshall falls to 3-9-3 (1-4-2 C-USA), while SMU improves to 9-5-1 (5-1-1 C-USA).

The Mustangs mustered an early goal less than 20 minutes into the first half, yet The Herd tallied the equalizer just a minute after period two began as Megan Tabler fired her first goal of the season off a pass from Alyssa Cathey and Chelsey Maiden. With ten minutes to go in regulation, however, Courtney Smith of SMU tallied only her second goal of the season and the game-winner for the Mustangs.

MU posted seven shots against the Mustang defense, with Katie Ball and Megan Tabler leading the way with two each, including one-on-goal. Chelsey Maiden and Myka DeMarco each fired a shot-on-goal as well.

Lindsey Kerns disrupted four shots throughout the night and recorded just her second loss of the season.

Marshall looks to redeem themselves on the road, traveling to Oklahoma to face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Sunday at 1 P.M. ET. In order to stay in the hunt for the playoffs, MU looks to grab a critical victory. Live stats will be available here.
