Herd’s D’Orazio, Puerto Rico to Face Team USA Tonight

IRVINE, Calif. – Marshall sophomore second baseman Elicia D’Orazio, the reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Year, will represent the Puerto Rican national team tonight at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT) in a World Cup of Softball X contest against Team USA.


Eight international teams from seven countries are competing in the event, which began Monday morning. Participating countries are Argentina, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team, the USA Softball Women's National Team and Venezuela.


D’Orazio, also a member of the 2015 All-C-USA First Team, had two hits and drove in a run in the 2-0 win over Argentina on Monday before Puerto Rico rallied for a 6-5 win over Venezuela later in the day via three runs in the top of the seventh. Puerto Rico will face Canada at 5 p.m. ET Wednesday, the USA Juniors Thursday (7:30 p.m. ET), Mexico Friday (2:30 p.m.) and Japan Saturday (12 p.m.).


Former Marshall hurler Erika Bennett is also playing in the tournament as a member of Team Mexico. After a Tuesday game against Japan, Mexico will face Canada (12 p.m. ET) and Venezuela (2:30 p.m.) on Wednesday, Argentina on Thursday (5 p.m.), Puerto Rico on Friday (2:30 p.m.) and the USA Juniors on Saturday (2:30 p.m.).
