Huntington Middle Community Service Club Collecting Items for Homeless July 4th

From Press Release

While everyone is raising flags on July 4th to celebrate our nation’s independence, several student members of the Community Service Club at Huntington Middle School will mark the holiday by raising much-needed personal items for the area’s homeless.

The club members will set up a special table at the Big Lots store on 14th Street West in Huntington in support of the Harmony House, which provides services to homeless individuals.  The students will be asking shoppers to purchase sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, socks, shoes, underwear, lip balm, insect repellent products, water bottles, rain gear, and other summer essentials.  The table will be outside the store all day, and the students will work two shifts, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and then again from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

The Huntington Middle School Community Service Club members have not been taking it easy this summer.  They’ve already worked in cooperation with the United Way on several of their projects, have planted flowers all around the Hal Greer underpass, and picked up litter.  The group is still planning to volunteer at the animal shelter and to perform some random acts of kindness in the community.
