Swimming and Diving Hosts Liberty in First Home Meet of the Year

HUNTINGTON, WV – Marshall’s Swimming and Diving squad will return to the water inside the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium this weekend when it hosts the Liberty Flames for their first home meet of the season at 2 p.m.

Marshall is coming off strong showings to begin the season at both Radford and the West Virginia State Games., During the Radford meet; the Herd notched a victory against both Campbell and Radford while falling to James Madison. During the West Virginia State Games held in Morgantown, W.Va., Marshall Swimmers finished second in five different events to conclude the meet as runner-up to the host, West Virginia University.

Head Coach Russell Hunt said his squad is ready to take to the water in their season opener, “The players are excited to get their Home Campaign underway, and we gladly welcome in a young, talented, and quickly rising Liberty team.”

Freshman Kacey Preun has begun her Marshall career off extremely well; by placing first in the 200 yard Breaststroke and second place in the 1000 yard Freestyle during the Radford meet. Additionally, the St. Andrews, Manitoba native, Preun, notched a first place finish in the 200 yard Breaststroke, and second place in the 400 yard IM, 100 yard Breaststroke, and the 1000 yard Freestyle at the West Virginia State Games.

Liberty will begin their 2011-2012 campaign at Saturday’s meet. The Flames are entering their second year of competition as a NCAA Division I program.
