Huntington, W.Va. – The Herd women’s golf team hits the road  Aug. 31  for Richmond, Ky. to start the 2015-16 season at the Bluegrass Kickoff. The tournament is a one day event hosted by Eastern Kentucky.

Marshall returns only two letter winners from the previous season in sophomore Leigha Holt (Holly Springs, N.C.) and junior Pimrawee Huang (Nakornpatom, Thailand). Sarfina Seretharan sat out the 2014-15 season due to injury.

There is a lot of excitement for the squad surrounding the four newcomers in senior transfer Sierra Everson (Akron) and freshmen Lauryn Davidson (Vienna, W.Va.), Ylva Forslund (Vreta Kloster, Sweden) and Joey Walz (Pittsburgh, Pa.).

Head Coach Tiffany Prats begins her second season leading the women’s program and she is excited to get the year rolling. “I'm looking forward to kicking off our season this week at the Bluegrass. I have been impressed with the team this past week. Even though just 5 are playing in the team lineup I will be watching all 7 players and how the compete.”

Coach Prats announced the five for the team competition as returners Huang, Holt and Seretharan as well as freshmen Walz and Forslund. Both Everson and Davidson will be competing in the tournament as individuals.

“This team has very lofty goals for the week, these goals can all be met but we have talked about taking it one round at a time,” Prats said. “As long as everyone stays in the present I know this team will accomplish all of their goals.”
