CAIRO, West Virginia – Kayak or canoe? Which is better for you? The Quest program at North Bend State Park lets you choose one or both through September. Water based activities were especially popular during this first year of the Quest program.

“The Quest program caught the attention of many people this summer,” said North Bend State Park Supt. Steve Jones. “By far, the most requested activity was learning how to use a kayak or a canoe.”

Jones, Asst. Supt. Kathy Metz and Park Naturalist Ken Zebo are continuing Quest into September by offering kayak or canoe adventures on North Bend Lake.

“If Kathy, Ken or I can help someone get comfortable and enjoy a new outdoor activity like kayaking or canoeing on flat water, we’re doing our job of promoting outdoor recreation and facility use,” Jones said.

Quest rates have been reduced to encourage mid-week fall bookings. Two people can stay overnight at North Bend Lodge Sunday through Thursday and have use of a kayak or canoe with instruction. The rate is $95 plus tax in September for two people.

The 305-acre North Bend Lake is quiet and a perfect setting to enjoy a September getaway, according to Jones. Red-headed woodpeckers and other birds are residents at the lake. North Bend Restaurant is open daily and also features Sunday Buffet from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.  The park also features an October mid-week reduced lodge rate for travelers “leaf peeping” in the Ritchie county area.
