HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall safety Tiquan Lang, the Thundering Herd's 5'9" safety, was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week Monday, a day after an unbelievable performance in MU's 41-31 win over Purdue in Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

Lang racked up 17 tackles and bookended Marshall's 41-31 victory over Purdue with a pair of interception returns for touchdowns. He raced 30 yards on an interception return just seven seconds into the game and finished the scoring with a 55-yard jaunt to the end zone to give Marshall a 10-point win and its first victory over a Big Ten opponent. The two "pick-sixes" were the first for a Conference USA player since Cincinnati's Shawn Ferguson pulled off the feat in 1998.

It was the first time Marshall had four picks in a game since a 32-14 victory at Miami (Ohio) on Oct. 2, 1999 - the Herd's first victory in Oxford, Ohio, in 60 years.

The Thundering Herd will travel to Ohio (1-0) for a 7 p.m. affair Saturday evening at Peden Stadium. The Bobcats won 45-28 at Idaho in their season opener on Thursday.
