Armed Robberies Reported Downtown, near Marshall

Two armed robberies (one in which a teenager was shot) have occurred within blocks of each other in the past week.  A River Park nurse was robbed with a gun pointed to his head by two white males around 3:30 am Wednesday, Nov .4 as he took a lunch break on the hospital parking lot on 13th Street and 6th Avenue.  The nurse was robbed of his wallet and cellphone.  The two men were wearing Purge masks.

An 18-year-old Flatwood, Ky. man suffered a bullet wound to the arm during an attempted armed robbery about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3 at the Speedway convenience store parking lot in the 1500 block of Sixth Avenue.  According WSAZ, The victim  told police that he was approached a man who said "give me what you got.”   When he turned to run, the victim  was shot in the right arm by the suspect.

No arrests have been made.

The closeness of the two occurrences  raise concerns that an armed robber may be combing the area .  Several car break-ins have been reported in the blocks between Downtown and Marshall in the last few months.  Known heroin dealers are dealing within those blocks and it is highly probable that the gunmen are looking for money to purchase drugs.

It is highly advised that citizens take logical precautions.  Employees in the area should avoid taking breaks outside citizens should avoid being alone in these areas at night.  Be alert and proactive when walking at night by avoiding anyone you see on phone.  Having a phone ready to contact 911 if anything looks suspicious   could help.  The HPD is patrolling the area and help may just be a couple of blocks away if you have time to make an emergency call.  Being aware of who and what is around you can give you the extra time to make a potential life-saving call.  Try as much as possible to walk in lighted areas if you must walk in the problem areas after midnight.  If possible, stay together in groups.

WEST  END  SHOOTING

Two men from Michigan sustained gunshot wounds at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday  in the 700 block of an alley between Washington and Adams Avenue.  Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots. No arrests have been made in what police believe to be a drug related incident.

FIFTH AVENUE SPEEDWAY STABBING

Police received a dispatch to St. Mary’s Hospital at about 10:05 p.m. Nov. 3 after an apparent victim walked in with a wound to the abdomen allegedly received by the Speedway near the 2900 block of Fifth Avenue.
