DEVOTION: You're Blessed

by Beth Bondurant
It's only natural that wholeness and healing is our constant desire. Of course when school is closed... students most always rejoice.
Grumbling is expected when one has responsibility and required tasks. Why does it seem our troubles are never ending. Just one day... could we have no bickering and fighting among us. Even when all seems well... there's a nagging deep inside me. Why do loved ones have to suffer and die.

I do believe...but why does God seem so far away. From the beginning we have wondered and wandered through life... looking... hoping... finding... losing... questioning and crying.  When we follow what seems to be "the way"... the Master reminds us of our true blessing.  Read again and again... we still are amazed at this spiritual mystery of blessing.
"When The Master saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him. Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions. This is what he said: You're blessed when you're at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and God's  rule. You're blessed when you feel you've lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you. You're blessed when you're content with just who you are—no more, no less. That's the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can't be bought. You're blessed when you've worked up a good appetite for God. God's food and drink is the best meal you'll ever eat. You're blessed when you care. At the moment of being 'care-full,' you find yourselves cared for. You're blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world. You're blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That's when you discover who you really are, and your place in God's family. You're blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God's kingdom.

Not only that—count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happens—give a cheer, even!—for though they don't like it, I do! And all heaven applauds. And know that you are in good company. My prophets and witnesses have always gotten into this kind of trouble."

O God, we want to follow a path that gives us all we want and brings us happiness... yet you call us to service and sacrificial love.  We just don't understand how this can be our purpose when the world entices us to get pleasure and contentment in all our daily choices.

I do want to love You and love my family and friends and even those I do not know... but this just isn't easy.  Help me, O God, to comprehend but mainly to experience the kind of love and peace only You can give.

Like most folks... I run to find happiness yet I am blind to the meaning of my day to day struggles that are clothed in goodness and grace.  Open my spiritual eyes and bring light to my heart, mind, body and spirit... so I sense and discover this constant truth  ..... "You're Blessed".
