Marshall Slips Past NKU 65-55

HUNTINGTON, WV (HNN) – The Marshall Thundering Herd opened their season with a 65-55 exhibition victory over the Northern Kentucky Norse at the Cam Henderson Center.  Shaquille Johnson scored 16 points to lead the Herd in scoring. Justin Coleman added 15 while Dennis Tinnon scored 11 and pulled down 11 boards. Dago Pena chipped in with 10 points.

Marshall, playing without Damier Pitts, DeAndre Kane, or Nigel Spikes struggled early to get into an offensive rhythm. They shot 7-of-25 in the first half falling behind 21-10 with 9:11 to go in the half.  A Johnson jumper with 2 seconds left in the half cut the Norse lead to 32-27.

The Herd came out in the second half with more intensity and outscored NKU 25-3 over the first 10:19 to take a 52-37 lead. The Norse cut the Herd lead to 9 points three times but could come no closer.

For the game Marshall shot 21-for-50 for 42%, while outrebounding the Norse 48-30 and committing 18 turnovers.
