Herd Shuts Out F.I.U. to Remember the 75

The FIU-Marshall game is the sixth Herd football game played on the anniversary of the Nov. 14, 1970 team plane crash that took 75 lives. A look at the previous Marshall football results on the crash anniversary:

Senior Ricardo Williams makes his first career start at nose tackle for the Herd today, with senior Jarquez Samuel sidelined by injury.

True freshman quarterback Chase Litton has 20 touchdown passes this season. That is the Marshall freshman record. Chad Pennington and Rakeem Cato each had 15 touchdown passes as freshmen.

Senior Deandre Reaves’ 69-yard punt return for a touchdown is the first punt return touchdown for Marshall since Oct. 12, 2013, when Devon Smith went 77 yards for a punt return score at FAU.

Herd cornerback Rodney Allen’s lost fumble after an interception in the Herd’s first lost fumble since running back Tony Pittman lost a fumble with 9:40 left in first quarter in an Oct. 3 win over Old Dominion. The Herd had gone more than 24 quarters without losing a fumble.

Herd senior Deandre Reaves, with a 93-yard kick return touchdown against Kent State and a 69-yard punt return touchdown against FIU this season, is the first Marshall player with kick and punt return touchdowns in the same season since Troy Brown accomplished the feat in 1991 (three KR TDs, 1 PR TD).

Running back Remi Watson’s 62-yard touchdown run (second quarter) is the second longest rush of his career. He had an 80-yard touchdown run in the victory at Akron in 2014.
