HUNTINGTON, WVMarshall opens its 2011-12 women’s basketball season with an exhibition game against Salem International at the Cam Henderson Center on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

The game will be the first of two exhibition games scheduled to start the new season, with the second exhibition taking place against Bluefield College in the Henderson Center on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Head coach Royce Chadwick begins his 11th season with the Thundering Herd and looks to expand on a team that returns four of the five leading scorers from the 2010-11 season including Veronica Ruiz, Alaya Mitchell, Lateidra Elliott, and Rashed Henriques.

Chadwick also introduces 11 newcomers to the 2011-12 team and looks to the upcoming exhibitions to get them valuable court experience. Of the 11 newcomers, five are transfers and the remaining six are true freshmen.

Salem International’s exhibition game against Marshall will be their only scrimmage before they open up their season against Tiffin University on November 12. The Fighting Tigers bring back three seniors for their 2011-12 season and have seven upperclassmen returning as well.

The exhibition game will be broadcast on 88.1 FM WMUL and online at www.marshall.edu/wmul. Fans can follow the action via live stats at HerdZone.com.
