Thomas, Baines Taken in NBA D-League Draft

HUNTINGTON, WV Former Marshall men’s basketball players Johnny Thomas and Tirrell Baines were selected in the 2011 NBA Developmental League Draft on Thursday.

 

Thomas, who played for the Thundering Herd during the 2010-11 season after transferring from NC State, was drafted by the Springfield Armor with the first pick of the second round (17th overall). Thomas averaged 9.1 points and 4.5 rebounds as a junior before choosing to forego his senior season to pursue a professional basketball career overseas.

 

Baines was taken by the Erie BayHawks with the 10th pick of the fourth round (57th overall). The 6-6 forward played for the Herd from 2007-11 and averaged 12.8 points and 6.6 rebounds during his senior season.

 

The NBA D-League is the National Basketball Association’s official minor league basketball organization. Each of the 16 NBA D-League teams are affiliated with one or more NBA teams.
