Herd Track and Field Concludes Akron Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall track and field team completed the Akron Invitational Saturday in Akron, Ohio.

The Herd featured strongly in a multitude of events. Senior Alexandra Phares finished second in the 3k run, with a time of 10:35, a lifetime best for Phares by 15 seconds. All of Marshall's runners in the blue mile run finished with season bests. The Herd was ked by Madeline Armstrong, who had a time of 5:17.56.



Freshman Hasana Clark finished second in the blue division of the shot put, with a throw of 13.44m.


The Herd's Asia Bange had an impressive meet as well. The senior finished third in the 60-meter hurdles gold division (8.61).


In the triple jump gold division, junior Antonique Butler finished fourth with an indoor-best jump of 12.15m.


Another Herd athlete placed well in a gold division. Senior Shanice Johnson finished ninth in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 57.62.


Herd sophomore Breanna Hargrove placed sixth in the 400-meter dash blue division final (58.22). Hargrove was also part of the 4x400 team that placed second in the gold division (3:49.70).


"All in all, I was very pleased with our performances this weekend," Marshall coach Jeff Small said. "I thought we made great strides in all event areas and look forward to returning home next weekend."


Marshall is back in action in its final home meet of the 2015-16 season, the Chipotle Marshall Invitational. The two-day competition kicks off on Friday, Feb. 12.
