LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Marshall tennis picked up its third straight win after edging out the Louisville Cardinals Friday afternoon, 4-3, at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

The Herd improves to 4-2 this season, while Louisville falls to 6-2. Marshall is now 10-4 all-time against the Cardinals.

Marshall took an early edge in doubles action with a 6-3 win for Derya Turhan (Bad Salzuflen, Germany) and Rachael Morales (Columbus, Ohio). The Herd was unable to maintain the lead though, as it dropped the second and third doubles matches.

Despite going into singles trailing by one point, Marshall bounced back by taking two out of the first three points awarded to tie the match at two, apiece. Morales defeated Stokes, 6-3, 6-0, while Turhan won in straight set over Suswam, 6-2, 6-2.

The Herd took its first match advantage of the day, as Maddie Silver (East Grand Rapids, Mich.) swept Pahz, 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 4 singles match.

Marshall clinched the match when Anna Pomyatinskaya (Sochi, Russia) came back from dropping the first set 1-6 to win the second set 6-2 and the tiebreaking set, 6-4. Suffering setbacks for the Herd was Marija Bogicevic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Anne Gulsrud (Stavanger, Norway).

"I was very proud of how hard we fought in all six singles matches," Head Coach John Mercer said. I thought after we lost a tough doubles point we were able to come back and fight hard with a lot of determination. Rachael and Derya did a great job coming out focused and getting us back in the match. Then Maddie and Anna did a great job closing for us."

"Louisville is always a very competitive match for us. They always fight hard and it's always extra tough when we play on their home courts. They have great home town support. I have to give them a lot of credit in respect to how they came out and took the doubles point. Hopefully we can play well again this Sunday at Miami (Ohio). "

Turhan and Morales improved their individual records to 6-1 this spring, including both 4-0 in dual matches.
