HUNTINGTON, WV - Marshall linebacker Tyson Gale has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 football team.

The senior linebacker, who holds a 3.72 grade point average in Exercise Physiology, is a co-captain on the 2011 Marshall squad. He is the third-leading tackler on the team with 60 stops (22 solo, 33 assisted), which includes six tackles for loss. He has also posted an interception and two pass breakups.

He was named Conference USA’s Defensive Player of the Week following the Herd’s 17-13 win at Big East foe Louisville when he had a team-high seven tackles, including a tackle for loss, and the biggest play of the game when he stepped in front of Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater's pass to pick it off at the UL 30-yard line with 4:32 left. That turnover put the Herd offense in business deep in Cardinal territory and allowed it to cash in nearly three minutes later for the game-winning score. Gale led a defense that allowed just 60 yards rushing on 29 attempts (2.1 per carry) that day, including (-9) yards total offense in the first quarter.

The Herd will be back in action Saturday when it travels to Tulsa for a noon ET (11 a.m. CT) kickoff with the Golden Hurricane in a contest that will be televised on Fox Sports Net and Root Sports.
