HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University track and field runs its second outdoor meet Friday and Saturday at the two-day University of North Florida (UNF) Spring Break Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.

The Herd started its outdoor season with a string of impressive results at the Wake Forest Open, including two wins in the field division. Senior Karena Fulks topped the field in long jump, with a jump of 5.34 meters. Junior Antonique Butler also won the triple jump (12.58m), while senior Asia Bange placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (13.87m).


The team of Kametra Byrd, Shanice Johnson, Bange and Hope Julmiste finished second in the 4x100 relay, with a time of 47.30 seconds.


In other field events, freshman Heidi Heiniger placed seventh in the javelin throw in her first collegiate event, with a throw of 40.05 meters. Fellow freshman Elena Marchand finished ninth in the discus throw (41.62m), while Allie Perry tied for fourth in the pole vault B-section (3.17m).


"We have had a couple of great days practicing on the track at UNF that will be hosting the NCAA Championships Preliminary Round in May," Marshall coach Jeff Small said. "I am excited to see how well our athletes will perform this weekend."
