Hillary Concentrates on Substance Abuse at Charleston Forum IMAGES
Unlike Democratic Candidate Bernie Sanders who at a Big Sandy Superstore Arena rally made numerous proposals that would all have to pass a potentially hostile Congress, Mrs. Clinton listened to physicians, first responders, and a former addict in discussion of the national substance abuse epidemic.
Clinton revealed that overdose deaths have toughed her personally, relating how one of her interns died of an overdose during law school examinations. She joined Sen. Joe Manchin in support for a proposed law that would prominently place "recovering addict" on medical records, like allergies, if the patient consents.
The WV Senator and former governor introduced legislation last week in the U.S. Senate called "Jessie's Law." Runner and recovering substance abuser, Jessica Grubb, was given an opioid by a discharging physician unaware of her recovering addict status following surgery and sent home. She passed away that night.
Manchin at the forum proposed a one cent tax on each milligram of opiods which would be designated for recovery treatment.
