Valve Replacement May Cause Water Service Interruption in 22nd Street/9th Avenue Area of Huntington

From WV American Water Release
Huntington, W.Va.  (August 22, 2016) – West Virginia American Water crews will be replacing a 16-inch water valve tomorrow, Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the intersection of 22nd Street and 9th Avenue in Huntington. The project may cause a temporary disruption water service, low water pressure or discolored water in the immediate area. Work will begin around 8:00 a.m. and should be complete by 5:00 p.m. The area impacted by this work includes 8th, 9th, 10th, Artisan and Lincoln Avenues between 22nd Street and 26th Street, as well as parts of 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th Streets. Potentially impacted customers are being notified this evening through the CodeRED emergency notification system.

Once service is restored, customers in this area should boil their water before consumption until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water. Customers are asked to bring water used for drinking, cooking, bathing and brushing teeth to a full boil for a minimum of one minute, then cool before use.

West Virginia American Water also recommends the following steps:
·        Throw away beverages and ice cubes if made with tap water;
·        Keep boiled water in the refrigerator for drinking;
·        Provide pets with boiled water after cooling;
·        Do not use home filtering devices in place of boiling or using bottled water; most home water filters will not provide adequate protection from microorganisms;
·        Use only boiled water to treat minor injuries.

Once the system recovers, West Virginia American Water will be collecting additional water quality samples in the area of the outage. For more information, contact the company’s customer service center at 1-800-685-8660. West Virginia American Water apologizes for the inconvenience and will work to diligently to minimize the length of the service disruption necessary to complete the project and continue providing high quality, reliable water service.
