Special to HNN provided from Rep. Nick Rahall Statement

BECKLEY, W.Va. - U. S. Representative Nick Rahall (D – W.Va.) today announced that he is working for passage of a Congressional resolution reaffirming “In God We Trust” as the Nation’s motto, and encouraging its display in public buildings.

“George Washington added ‘so help me God’ to the Presidential oath of office at his inaugural ceremony, acknowledging the presence of a higher power in the destiny of America,” said Rahall.  “It’s good for the soul of the country to pause for a moment, to reflect upon God as our Founders did, and to call upon Him for strength and wisdom.”

Rahall is an original cosponsor of H. Con. Res. 13, a resolution reaffirming ‘‘In God We Trust’’ as the national motto of the United States, originally codified in 1956.  It supports and encourages the public display of the national motto in all public buildings, public schools, and other government institutions.

Rahall cosponsored a similar measure in the 111th Congress.
