Marshall Tops East Carolina in Overtime 34-27 with Dotson's Best One Handed Catch of the Season

With the win, Marshall’s sixth, they become bowl eligible.
Marshall scored on the first play from scrimmage when Rakeem Cato hit Aaron Dobson on a 77 yard touchdown pass. Cato was 23-of-29 passing for 341 yards and Dobson hauled in 4 passes for 110 yards. [ Editor's Note: A Youtube clip labels it the best one handed catch of the year.
Following a Pirate fumble on the ensuing kickoff, Tyler warner hit on a 24 yard field goal to give the Herd an early 10-0 lead.
East Carolina used a pair if Dominique Davis touchdown passes and a 57 yard field goal from Michael Barbour to take the lead 17-10.
With 39 seconds left in the second quarter, Cato hit Dobson from 13 yards out to tie the game at 17 apiece.
As time expired in the half Barbour hit his second field goal, this time from 58 yards, the Pirates went into the locker room at halftime with a 20-17 lead.
Tyler Warner connected on his second field goal of the game with 4:49 left in the third quarter to knot the game at 20.
The Herd took the lead when Travon Van ran from 33 yards out to give the Herd the 27-20 lead with 4:49 left in the game.
But the Pirates drove 82 yards in 15 plays capped off by a Davis 6 yard pass to Justin Jones with 14 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
In the first overtime Martinez scored on a one yard run set up by a 24 yard pass from Cato to Van.
On the Pirates overtime possession Darryl Roberts picked off a fourth down Davis pass to seal the victory.
