MU Basketball Players Charged in Fight; Athletic Dept. Emphasizes Innocent Until Proven Guilty

Marshall University basketball players Deandre Kane and Shaq Johnson face misdemeanor charges in connection with a January 30 fight at the Thirsty Whale.

Marshall University Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick and Head Men’s Basketball Coach Tom Herrion have released the following joint statement in response to a misdemeanor charge being filed this afternoon against two Marshall University men’s basketball student-athletes.

“We take this matter very seriously, as we do all situations that involve our student-athletes. We have looked into this and are aware of the circumstances. We have every confidence in the legal system and we are allowing the legal process to take its course. These young men are innocent until proven guilty and we are treating them accordingly.”

Marshall Athletics will make no further comment on this ongoing legal matter.
