Nation’s Top Offense Visits The Cam Sunday at 2:30

HUNTINGTON, WV Marshall’s defense will attempt to slow down the highest scoring team in the nation on Sunday as Iona (7-1) and the Thundering Herd (5-2) meet for a 2:30 p.m. game at the Cam Henderson Center.


The game will feature the offense of Iona (90.5 points per game) and the defense of Marshall (59.9 points per game allowed). The Herd also boasts the nation’s eighth best rebounding mark with 42.3 boards per game.


Marshall is coming off its second consecutive loss of the season on Tuesday at the hands of No. 3 Syracuse, 62-56. Sophmore guard DeAndre Kane leads the team in scoring with 14.9 points per game. Senior guard Damier Pitts is second with 13.0 points per game and has scored in double-figures in each of his last six games.


The Herd’s rebounding effort has been led by junior forward Dennis Tinnon with an average of 10.4 after an impressive 15-point, 17-rebound performance over Syracuse. He enters the game having posted three-straight double-doubles and has totaled four this season.


A member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Iona College is located in New Rochelle, N.Y. and is 7-1 on the season following an 80-78 overtime win at Denver on Wednesday. The Gaels’ trip to Huntington is their fourth of nine consecutive games away from home spanning from Dec. 2 - Jan. 3. Iona’s only loss this season was a 91-90 defeat to Purdue in the first round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.


The Gaels are led by 6-7 forward Mike Glover who averages 19.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest. Iona ranks among the nation’s leaders in assists with 21.1 per game thanks in large part to point guard Scott Machado whose 10.8 assists per game mark leads the NCAA.


This will be the second-ever meeting between Iona and Syracuse. Marshall leads the all-time series 1-0 with a 93-81 win on Jan. 2, 1954 in New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
