Special Metals Announces Huntington Layoffs

HUNTINGTON, WV (HNN) – A representative of Precision Castparts Corp., parent company of Special Metals, has confirmed a round of permanent layoffs at both the Huntington and Burnaugh facilities.

62 hourly workers at the Huntington facility and eight at the Burnaugh plant will not report for work Monday morning. Earlier this year, 40 alloy workers were laid off for lack of work at the Huntington plant.

Special Metals will lay off employees at their Elkhart, Indiana, facility too.

Spokesperson Dwight Weber explained that the cut back relates to a slower than expected industrial recovery from the recession. Weber acknowledged that there have been prior layoffs in which workers were recalled and even more hired based on business conditions.
