Marshall Hosts WVU Tech on Wednesday

HUNTINGTON, WV Marshall will play its third game in five days on Wednesday when it hosts West Virginia Tech for a 7 p.m. tip at the Cam Henderson Center.

 

The Thundering Herd is 8-2 on the season following Monday’s thrilling 87-86 win over Belmont. Sophomore guard DeAndre Kane led Marshall with a career-high 29 points to increase his team-leading average to 16.6 per game. His 29 points were the most by a Herd player since Feb. 7, 2009 when Chris Lutz scored 37 against Tulane.

 

Junior forward Dennis Tinnon recorded 24 points and 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. He leads the Herd and ranks third in Conference USA in rebounding with 10.1 per game. Senior guard Damier Pitts had a career-high 11 assists to go with 19 points for his third career double-double.

 

For the second time, Marshall will be looking to win its fourth consecutive game as it started the season 5-0.

 

West Virginia Tech is an NAIA school located in Montgomery, W.Va. The Golden Bears are 8-2 on the season and led by 6-7 senior Eddie Hayden who is averaging 16.4 points and 7.0 points per game. Seven players on the roster hail from the state of West Virginia. Bob Williams is in his 10th season at WVU Tech and is coming off a 14-16 season.

 

WVU Tech is currently averaging 93.1 points per game and beating its opponents by an average of 17.3 points.

 

Marshall leads the all-time series 16-6 and has won the past six meetings. The two teams last met on Nov. 12, 2010 resulting in a 92-69 Marshall win.
