Women’s Basketball Travels to Furman

HUNTINGTON, WV  – With the 2011 year coming to an end, Marshall women’s basketball will begin its first of four road games in Greenville, South Carolina against the Furman Paladins. The game is schedule to tip off at 1:00 p.m. ET on Thursday.

This will be the 31st meeting between the two programs, but the two teams haven’t faced off since Marshall’s final season in the Southern Conference in 1997. The Herd holds a slight advantage over the Paladins in the all-time series, 16-14.

Marshall looks to expand its current win streak of six and hopes to capitalize on its best start since the 2003-04 season. The Herd currently holds a 7-2 record and is led by Jasmine Shaw in total points with 69 and 8.6 points per game. Erica Woods contributes 7.0 points per game and a team-leading 7.2 rebounds per contest. Lateidra Elliott has emerged as one of Marshall’s most potent offensive threats, after recording double-digit points in the past two games. The senior guard leads the team in assists with 20 and also adds four steals.

Furman enters the game 7-3 after most recently taking wins over Elon and UNC Greensboro. The Paladins are the top team in the Southern Conference, recording a 4-0 record against SoCon opponents so far in the season. Raegan Thompson leads the team with 12.1 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game. Kaitlin Murphy follows with 11.6 points per game and totals 51 assists for the year.
