DEVOTION: Love Flies Away

by Beth Bondurant

Helium balloons tend to fly away if one doesn't hold firmly ... especially in the wind.

Life seems to be a continuous series of "Hello" and "Goodbye"... even when one doesn't fly away on a plane.

Living together doesn't mean we are in constant communion with the ones we love... as they often are "out of touch" during much of our daily activity.

Love is fragile.  Holding on tightly may sound suffocating... but to value how precious love is cannot be measured.

"Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn't want what it doesn't have. Love doesn't strut, doesn't have a swelled head, doesn't force itself on others, isn't always "me first," doesn't fly off the handle, doesn't keep score of the sins of others, doesn't revel when others grovel, takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, puts up with anything, trusts God always, always looks for the best, never looks back, but keeps going to the end." (I Cor.13:4-8)-The Message

God created us in love... to love... to be loved.  This is the meaning of life... more abundantly.

O God... how can we say thanks for your unconditional love and grace.  You brought us into this world...and you promise never to leave us even when we seem to be "away" from your presence.  Help us recognize your Spirit with us in the people we see from day to day.  Whisper your will to us as we seek to live together in "family" whether or not we are blood related.  Teach us to love... empower us to forgive... help us to keep on keeping on when our "love" seems disappointing and unfulfilled.  Alert us each and every day to the amazing possibility we have with YOUR LOVE LIVING IN OUR HEARTS.  We want to HOLD ON to your goodness and mercy... especially when LOVE flies away.
