Jam the Cam Marshall Women Lose to UCF
HUNTINGTON, WV (HNN) The tenth annual "Jam the Cam," for the Marshall women's basketball team resulted in little celebration for the Herd with UCF winning 71-59 at Cam Henderson Center on Sunday afternoon. Feb. 13.
The event produced an attendance of 714 which was one of the better crowds of the home season, but falls in last place in the ten year history of "Jam the Cam," events.
A promotion to help bring Marshall students to the game had funds of $500.00 to give out to the first 100 students that attended the game. Each of the first 100 students would receive a payment of $5.00 after the game. Marshall officials distributed about $300.00 of the $500.00 at the end of the game to those students that came to support the Herd.
Past "Jam the Cam," attendances were Dec, 5, 2001; 5,256; Feb.1, 2003; 4,469: Dec. 2, 2003; 4,234: Dec. 12, 2004; 7,017: Dec. 16, 2005; 1,855: Dec. 2, 2006; 1,209: Dec. 16, 2007; 927: Feb. 15, 2009; 3,526: January 10, 2010; 2,109 and Feb. 13, 2011; 714.
UCF had a 31-23 lead at the intermission. Marshall closed the gap to to six points in the second period twice. Once at the start at 19:38 the score was 31-25 UCF and at the 11:44 mark UCF was up 45-39.
Marshall's Tynikki Crook led Herd scorers with 19 points. UCF player Chelsie Wiley led her team with 19 points.
Marshall is 6-18 overall and 2-9 in Conference USA. UCF is 14-10 overall and 7-4 in Conference USA.
The Marshall Pep Band was playing with Marshall University Assistant Band Director and Percussion Instructor Dr. Ben Miller playing the drums at the start of the game. The Marshall University Dance Team also performed.
