Marshall Snaps Two Game Slide, Beats UTEP 76-60

HUNTINGTON, WV (HNN) – The Marshall Thundering Herd opened up Conference USA play with a 76-60 victory over the UTEP Miners before 5,229 fans at the Cam Henderson Center.

With the win, Marshall improves to 10-4(1-0 C-USA) while UTEP falls to 7-8(0-1 C-USA).

The Herd led 6-0 early in the first half but the Miners went on a 13-0 run to take the lead. They extended their lead to 22-13 with 9:24 remaining in the half.

Marshall took control from that point and went into the locker room with a 39-34 lead.

In the second half, the Herd limited the Miners to 8 made baskets on 29 attempts (27.6%) while connecting on 12-of-29(41.4%) shots.

Once again Marshall outrebounded their opponent this time 42-23 with 16 coming on the offensive end resulting in 18 second chance points.

Dennis Tinnon chalked up his 7th double-double of the season scoring 15 points and hauling down 10 rebounds.

Nigel Spikes came off the bench to score 10 points and pull down 8 rebounds in 23 minutes of action.

Joining Tinnon and Spikes in double figures was Shaquille Johnson who scored 12 and DeAndre Kane who scored 10 points.
