Women’s Basketball Hosts Tulsa on Sunday

HUNTINGTON, WV Following a victory in the opening Conference USA game against Houston this past Thursday, Marshall women’s basketball looks to continue their success in the Cam Henderson Center against Tulsa on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.

 

Marshall stands at 10-3 (1-0 C-USA) after knocking off the Cougars. The 65-41 win displayed a 59 rebound performance that was a combined Herd effort as 13 different players grabbed boards. Lateidra Elliott, C-USA’s leader in three-point percentage, went 3-for-4 from behind the arc and led her team with 11 points. Elliott boasts a 48.3 percent average in three-pointers for the season.

 

Jasmine Shaw continues to lead the Herd with 8.6 points per game after making 38 shots and marking a 47.5 percent average in the field. Erica Woods follows with 7.4 points per game, while leading the team with 88 rebounds.

 

Defensively, the Herd is led by freshman guard Victoria Wells with 32 steals. Alaya Mitchell adds 30 steals, while the Herd as a whole is 29th in the nation with 156 steals. In the blocks, Leandra King has a team-high 18 blocks.

 

Tulsa holds a 6-6 record and hopes to challenge Marshall to stay unbeaten in C-USA play after beating Southern Miss, 68-57, to go 1-0 in the conference. The Golden Hurricane claims a win streak of three after also defeating Stephen F. Austin and Nebraska-Omaha. Taleya Mayberry leads Tulsa with 16.3 points per game. Tiffani Couisnard posts 8.2 rebounds per game and Taylor Hooker tallies 2.9 steals per game.
