Marshall Performance Electrifying in Tulsa Basketball Win
The Herd continued in the second period taking a 52-30 lead. With 3:56 left Marshall had a 24 point lead 77-53 and finished the game with an 18 point lead 79-61.
Marshall senior Tirrell Baines led all scorers with 26 points. Teammate Damier Pitts scored 19 points.
The game was a delight for Marshall fans. Tulsa was in a second place tie in Conference USA at 8-4 tied with UTEP at 8-4. Southern Miss, Memphis and UAB were all tied at 9-4 fighting for first place.
Marshall's next opponent this Saturday ( Feb. 26) SMU was 7-5 in third place followed by Marshall 6-6. Following were East Carolina 5-7, Rice 4-8, UCF 4-9, Houston 4-9 and Tulane 2-11. The word jumbled up is right and it may be about two weeks before the Conference USA race is finally sorted out.
Marshall Coach Tom Herrion was happy with the way Marshall took control of the game early and came out with good energy noting that senior Tirrell Baines is showing senior leadership.
The next two home basketball games with SMU (Feb 26) and UCF (March 5) will finish out the regular season. Both games have 7 PM starts. Herrion called for and pleaded for fan support to, "Jam the Cam," for both games.
Herrion said, "Please, please please come out and support this team. These guys deserve it. Certainly I appreciate the fans that do come. We want to pack Cam Henderson Center for these games."
"I know since I live here there is not that much to do here on a Saturday night."
Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojick was surprised the way Marshall had dominated the basketball game.
He said, "We just did not have it tonight. We will go home and regroup."
