IRVING, TexasMarshall’s Andi Williamson was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Williamson was the Thundering Herd’s dominant force in the circle this weekend. Williamson struck out a career-high 13 batters during the team’s first game of the Cougar Classic against Charleston Southern. That was three more than her career high and is the most for a MU pitcher since 2004. In the first three innings, Williamson recorded a strikeout for eight of the Herd’s nine outs, including five straight batters at one point.

The West Virginia native allowed only one run and three hits in a complete game win over Akron Saturday. Only five Zip batters reached base, as she gave MU the pitching it needed to capture a 3-1 victory. Over the weekend, Williamson compiled a earned run average of 0.91 and 19 strikeouts in 15.1 innings of work. This is Williamson’s first C-USA Pitcher of the Week honor.

“Andi can be a dominate force on the mound as proven her number of strikeouts recorded,” said Marshall Head Coach Shonda Stanton. “She gave us quality innings on back to back days and we are pleased for her to receive this recognition.”

The Herd is back in action this Friday as they participate in the Citrus Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex at Walt Disney World. Marshall will play Maryland at 2:30 p.m. and St. John’s at 4:45 p.m. Friday.
