Huntington's Lady Highlanders Lose to George Washington in Tournament
The Huntington High loss in the Class AAA quarterfinal game of the West Virginia Girl's High School Basketball Tournament ended an excellent basketball season for the Highlanders and head coach Lonnie Lucas. Huntington finishes the season at 19-7.
George Washington 19-7 will advance to play in a semi final game on Friday (March 11) at 9 PM against South Charleston. The winner will advance to the state finals on Saturday (March 12) at 7:15 PM.
Huntington started off even with George Washington tied 11-11 at the end of the first period. With about two minutes left in the second period George Washington took control of the game with four three pointers taking a 30-22 point lead to end of the second period.
From there George Washington never looked back. Huntington High brought the score within six points at 47-41 with four minutes left in game. George Washington came back and expanded their lead to win by 13 (58-45).
Huntington was 17-57 in field goal shooting for 29.8% and 1-14 in three point shooting for 7.1%. From the foul line they were 10-14 for 71.4%.
Kiana Evans led Huntington High scorers with 18 followed by Talequia Hamilton with 12.
George Washington was 20-48 in field goal shooting for 41.7% and 7-19 in three point shooting for 36.8%. From the foul line they were 11-13 for 84.6%.
George Washington's Dri Nazario led all game scorers with 22 followed by teammate Rachel Ward with 19.
