ORLANDO, Fla.Shay Weaver hit four three-pointers in the second half to ignite a Marshall comeback that knocked off UCF 69-60 on Thursday. The contest marked the final regular season game for both teams.

Marshall ended the regular season with a 16-13 (7-9 C-USA) record. UCF finished the season with a 12-16 (7-9 C-USA) standing.

Weaver finished the night with a season-high 15 points after going 5-for-6 in three-pointers.

“We did a really good job of executing our offense,” said head coach Royce Chadwick. “We got a lot of inside-out looks. Shay Weaver was huge for us, knocking down some big threes.”

The freshman guard was the only Herd player to score double-digit points, though Veronica Ruiz and Erica Woods posed a positive effort in the post, recording eight points each. Woods led Marshall on the boards with six rebounds, while Ruiz followed with five boards.

“Our post game was probably the best it has been all year,” continued Chadwick. “All of our post players made contributions and our guards did a really good job of shooting them out of the zone.”

UCF’s Aisha Patrick gave the Herd numerous problems in the first half and accounted for 13 points in the opening period. She went 6-for-9 in the first half and had six rebounds.

Patrick would go on to lead UCF with 19 points after taking 21 shots from the field. The senior guard had a double-double after posting a team-high 12 points as well.

Marshall trailed 36-30 at the half after allowing the Knights 15-of-27 shots from the field for a 55.6 percent average.

The Knights would steal the lead back one final time with just under 12 minutes, but Marshall responded by going ahead with a good layup from Lateidra Elliott and sustained the advantage for the remainder of the game.

Accurate free throw shooting in the final minutes gave Marshall a final score of 69-60 against the Knights.

The Herd finished 9-for-18 in three-pointers and marked over a 40.0 percent average after going 24-for-59 from the field.

11 different players scored points in the game, while 12 different players tallied at least one rebound. The Marshall bench contributed 29 points.

“We go a lot of contributions from a lot of different areas. Our seniors led our team and did a very good job of keeping us grounded during the hard times and elevated our play when we needed them the most.”
