DEVOTION: Invisible Moment

by Beth Bondurant

The air we breathe is invisible... yet without this life giving potential... we could not exist.

Breathing in and breathing out... is truly a mystery as there are both precise God gifted potency as well as the possibility of dangerous elements that may threaten our life.

Science can test and seek to modify the air we breathe... but the breath of God's living Spirit moving in and around us is a continual force with endless capability.

"You're not listening. Let me say it again. Unless a person submits to this original creation—the 'wind-hovering-over-the-water' creation, the invisible moving the visible, a baptism into a new life—it's not possible to understand God's kingdom. When you look at a baby, it's just that: a body you can look at and touch. But the person who takes shape within is formed by something you can't see and touch—the Spirit—and becomes a living spirit."

God in us and around us is a gift of love.  We can't learn it... earn it... discern it by human standards.  Being touched and moved by God's compassion can turn our world upside down.

On this second Sunday of Lent... we celebrate the ability of seeing God in and around us ... moving through the power of love to bring about hope and healing.

Accept God's offer to breathe new life into your heart, mind, body and spirit.

Trust that there is NOTHING that can separate you or your loved ones from God's living Spirit.

Believe that you are God gifted with amazing mysteries of goodness and grace.

O God, I have so little faith. Time and time again I have seen you move in wondrous ways... yet when I am tested... my goodness crumbles. It's as though the wind dies down and I have no strength to "do the very things I want to do".  Help me to let go of my desire to control all the aspects of my life and to hold on to your sure hand of mercy.  Lift me up and send me swirling into action... filled with your breath of patience and peace.  Help me to breathe deeply and trust your empowering love that bears all things...believes all things ... hopes all things.... endures all things both in the dark of night and the light of day. You are INDEED our only hope for renewal and restoration.  We breathe in and are totally dependent on your omnific... invisible movement.
