HUNTINGTON, WVSoftball will welcome the UAB Blazers, currently in first place of Conference USA, to Dot Hicks Field for a three game series beginning Friday at 1 p.m.

Due to anticipated inclement weather, the schedule has been altered so that the doubleheader will now be played starting at 1 p.m. on Friday and a single game now on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. Lil’ Sis Day will still be held during the single game Saturday.

The Thundering Herd (17-11, 5-1 C-USA), which sits in a second place tie with Tulsa, is coming off a 5-1 week which began with a three game sweep at Memphis. Marshall shutout the Tigers in each game of the three game set. Marshall’s lone loss of the trip came at Lipscomb in the second half of a Monday doubleheader.

Outstanding pitching has led the Herd in the past few weeks.  Over the last eight games and 54 innings of play, the Herd has allowed only five runs to score. This stretches from a 13-0 win over Bucknell to a 2-1, eight inning win against Lipscomb. Andi Williamson has improved her earned run average to a conference best 1.52 while winning six of her last seven decisions.

Jazmine Valle handled the bat the best for MU during its Tennessee trek. She posted a .368 batting average with seven hits during the last six games of action.  Alianna Telles was also successful at the plate with six hits and four runs batted in, bumping her season batting average to .298.

Head coach Shonda Stanton will attempt to collect her 400 career win against the Blazers. Stanton needs just three more wins to reach the 400 win plateau and can achieve it by sweeping UAB.

The Blazers (16-11, 3-0 C-USA) enter the weekend riding high after winning eight out of their last ten contests. This includes a 5-0 performance at the University of Kentucky Tournament in which they defeated the host Wildcats twice, including a 20-7 win in the final game of tournament on Sunday.

Mandy Lowman is the top UAB hitter with an average of .446, which is third best in the conference. She smacked a grand slam against UK and now has a team high six home runs and has also provided 20 RBI’s on the season. MU will also have to deal with the UAB pitching staff that is tied for the second best team earned run average in C-USA at 2.35. Lannah Campbell has an individual ERA of 1.59 to lead her squad.

WMUL will broadcast each game of the weekend series while live video through Herd All-Access and live stats via GameTracker will also be available.
