Marshall Softball to Host MLB Pitch, Hit & Run Competition

HUNTINGTON, WV – Boys and girls ages 7 to 14 will have the chance to compete for the opportunity to advance to the MLB All-Star with the Pitch, Hit & Run competition hosted by Marshall softball.

The team and Marshall athletics will conduct the competition on Sunday, April 15 at 3 p.m. or once the Thundering Herd’s 12 p.m. game with Tulsa concludes at Dot Hicks Field. It is free to participate.

Pitch, Hit & Run, sponsored by Aquafina is the official youth skills competition of Major League Baseball. This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete; free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills.

Competitors are divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, and have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including team championships at Major League ballparks and the national finals at the 2012 MLB All-Star Game. Age is determined as of July 17, 2012.

The individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with the all-around champion in each age group at the local competition will be awarded and advance to the sectional level of competition.

Interested youth will need to provide a copy of either their birth certificate or baptismal before competing. Registration will take place during the Herd’s game and up until the start of the competition.
