HUNTINGTON, WVAfter playing 13 of its last 16 games away from Huntington, Marshall softball will host Ohio in a doubleheader on Wednesday to begin a stretch of 11 straight home games.

The Bobcats (15-18, 4-4 MAC) and the Thundering Herd (22-16, 10-5 C-USA) will tangle for the 46th time on Wednesday. Marshall holds the most wins in the series at 27-18. This will be the 14th meeting between the two since MU exited the Mid-American conference.

The Herd is coming off its third straight C-USA road series win last weekend when it defeated Southern Miss in the first two games of the three game set to take the series win. Rebecca Gamby was stellar at the dish for MU, going 8-for-15 last week including her first career four hit game and two double game during a 12 inning affair in the first match-up between the two foes.

Jazmine Valle fueled her squad’s wins with game winning hits in each of the USM victories. Her 12th inning home run was the only run scored in extra frames and a three run triple in game two of the series put her squad up 3-2. Valle leads the team in runs batted in (28) and home runs (7).

Regional rival Ohio comes to Huntington with four batters hitting .300 or better. Jillian Van Wagnen leads the club with a .385 average, 23 runs scored, and 21 steals. The power bats for OU are Lauren Gellerman who is best on the squad at 19 RBI’s and 4 home runs and Raven King with a team high ten extra base hits and a .551 slugging percentage, which leads the team.

The Bobcats utilize three pitchers, with Lauren McClary leading her team with a 3.26 earned run average in 122.1 innings pitched. She has compiled a record of 9-11 on the season while striking out 126 batters.

Game one of the doubleheader gets underway at 2 p.m from Dot Hicks Field. The two teams will follow with a second game at approximately 4 p.m. A special presentation to head coach Shonda Stanton to recognize her 400th career win will take place before game one.
