Board Meeting Announcement – Board to Consider School Names

HNN Staff
HUNTINGTON, WV (HNN) - Cabell County Schools’ Board of Education will conduct its Regular Board Meeting, Tuesday, April 5, 2011 beginning at 5:30 PM in the Central Office Board Meeting Room, 2850 5th Avenue in Huntington.  At this meeting, the Board will discuss and vote on personnel, financial, and policy issues.
The complete agenda is available on the Cabell County Schools website at www.cabellcountyschools.com at the top of the page in the “About Us” section.  The meeting is open to the public.

As part of the meeting, Board members will be presented with three name options for the coming east end middle school.  This school will eventually consolidate the existing Enslow and Beverly Hills middle schools.  The combined LSICs of the two schools met, and through a consensus process, selected three recommendations which, in alphabetical order, are:

Huntington East Middle School
River City Middle School
University Heights Middle School

The Board will also be asked to consider their mascot selection as well, the “Bears”.  This is in reference to the West Virginia State Animal, the black bear.  They will also vote on the schools’ color selection of purple and white.  Ultimately, the name of the school is the decision of the Board of Education.

The Central Office is still collecting input on these recommendations and would like to hear what residents think of the combined LSICs suggestions.  You may email your comments in writing to Todd Alexander, Administrative Assistant over Secondary Education at talexand@access.k12.wv.us, or you may send your suggestions by mail to Mr. Alexander at Cabell County Schools, 2850 5th Avenue, Huntington, WV 25702
