R & B's Classic Temptations Head to BSSA June 15

Having sold tens of millions of albums since their start in the 1960s, the five-member singing and dancing, Temptations , have adapted their style from R & B, funk and disco to  soul and adult contemporary  through five decades on stage, record, film, and television.

Known for hits such as “My Girl,” “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone,” and “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” the Temptations bring a tradition of uniquely blended harmonies and flashy suits June 15 to the Big Sandy Superstore Arena, Huntington, WV at 7:30 p.m. Visit, http://www.bigsandyarena.com or Ticketmaster.

Their influence on the Motown soulful sound has been compared to the influence of The Beatles on pop and rock.  Unlike other R & B groups, each member of the Temptations was a lead singer in his own right and many of their songs depend upon interaction of individual members. The Temptations have won a Grammy (the first Motown group to do so), six Temptations are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, four of their songs hit #1 (“Just My Imagination”, “I Can’t Get Next to You,” “My Girl” and “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”)  on Billboard’s Hot 100 and 14 others were #1 on Billboard’s R & B list of #1 singles.

The legendary group’s original members were David Ruffin, Melvin Franklin, Paul Williams, Otis Williams and Eddie Kendricks. Only, Otis Williams is still living and he continues singing with the group which currently includes Ron Tyson, Terry Weeks, Joe Herndon  and Bruce Williamson.
