DEVOTION: Demonstrating God's Grace

by Beth Bondurant

How can we picture God's love reaching out to us... when our hearts are heavy... our minds are confused... our bodies lack energy and shalom.

"The Master knew that God had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;  knowing this, the Master got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him."

Today...tonight... many will gather to remember... the last meal that Jesus spent with his beloved disciples. Knowing full well what the future held... it was upmost in his mind to continue to prepare them for the shocking truth that would come in just a few hours.

Demonstrating God's grace .... comes when we kneel down at the feet of those who are fearful and questioning... resistant and unsettled... different and hesitant... waiting and wondering... alone and outcast;  touching with healing and hope... with mercy and tenderness... with patience and peace in God's Spirit of unconditional love.

O God... you know how stubborn I am... so opinionated and judgmental...so resistant to grace... even for myself... much less for others around me.  I want so much to humble myself to You and be willing to be touched... healed and forgiven.  Prepare me today to let go of the chains that bind my heart, mind, body and spirit.  Give me the strength to fall into your hands of grace and peace.  Allow my heart to be moved toward mercy... toward wholeness... toward a way that truly will be demonstrating God's grace.
