Gamby to Play on USA Softball Elite Team

ASHLAND, OhioFormer Marshall softball player Rebecca Gamby has been chosen to play on the USA Softball Elite team, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of American announced Wednesday.

Gamby was participating in the USA Softball Women’s National Team selection camp in Ashland, Ohio this past week and was competing against 20 players for the final five spots on the national team roster. She was the first Marshall softball player to participate in the selection camp.

The Thundering Herd’s former four-year catcher did earn a roster spot the USA Elite team, which will participate in a series of exhibition games with the national team over the course of the next six days. The first doubleheader is scheduled for Summersville, W.Va. on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m.  The two teams will also match-up on Monday, June 18 in Ashland, Ohio.

The Ohio native led Marshall during her senior season in batting average with a career high mark of .348 and runs batted in with 31. She also collected 56 hits and twelve doubles, both second of the team. Gamby started each game during this past season that saw her squad finish third in the Conference USA regular season and runner-ups in the C-USA tournament.
