Marshall Baseball Players in the Pros – Summer Update #5

Special to HuntingtonNews.Net

HUNTINGTON, WV -- Former Thundering Herd relief pitcher Jesse Fernandez recorded his first professional appearance while Dan Straily and Ian Kadish continued their dominance last week in professional baseball.

Fernandez entered his first game on Saturday with one out and runners on first and second in the ninth inning of a one-run contest.  After walking one to load the bases, last year’s Herd senior induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning and send Aberdeen into the bottom of the inning with hope still alive.

On the west coast, Straily made one start – an eight-inning two-hitter – but received a no-decision as a lead-off double in the ninth came around to score and even the game at 1-1.  That run was Straily’s only blemish and the only blemish issued to the River Cats until an 18th-inning walk-off.

Kadish, meanwhile, picked up saves in two relief appearances, striking out five in three innings.  Kadish’s strikeout-per-nine average rose to 14.44 when he struck out the side in the ninth inning Saturday against Spokane.
